Camp Tournesol’s mission is to inspire a lifelong love of the French language by providing an inclusive and engaging camp experience. We aim to welcome children of all backgrounds and French language levels, offering opportunities to grow in confidence and proficiency. Through fun, immersive activities, we help campers build a strong foundation in French while creating unforgettable memories.
The role of Counsellor in Training (CIT) is a volunteer position with Camp Tournesol. This is a great opportunity for high school students looking to earn volunteer hours. Counsellors in Training report directly to the Camp Leader.
The responsibilities of a Counsellor in Training include but are not limited to:
Assist with inquiry and discussion surrounding the camp activities
Create a fun, enjoyable, and safe atmosphere for campers
Model appropriate behaviour and positive interactions
Engage with each camper as they work through activities
Ensure that all campers under your care are treated equally, consistently, and fairly
Demonstrate emotional maturity, a positive attitude, and good decision-making
Be self-confident and able to accept and adopt constructive feedback
Accept guidance and instructions from the Camp Leader
Commit to a minimum of (1) full week of volunteer work during the camp season
Experience working with children is considered an asset
Currently attending high school
Arrive on time for scheduled shifts
Have good communication skills
